Athens' crown jewel is really the Acropolis. A series of temples dedicated to Athena, the patron Greek goddess of the city, and other important figures in Ancient Greek mythology, this hilltop complex is supposedly visible from anywhere in Athens. So much has been written about its historical significance, its (occasionally botched) excavation and restoration, its Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06445777968831304584noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8839637901110735651.post-43297877480330281282017-05-12T10:58:00.000+02:002017-05-12T10:58:03.669+02:00Athens Trip: Day 3- SightseeingHey guys!
For the third day of our trip, we purchased Acropolis combo tickets and headed out to see a bunch of smaller sites included in the package.
Ancient Agora (Marketplace)
This was one of my favorite spots! So serene, yet so filled with history. I loved that you got to walk through and find all the clues to the past.

The evening of our second day, we had dinner out before spending some time relaxing on the rooftop of our hotel and I got to take some pictures of the amazing sights, and also some interesting shots of some of the day-to-day sights around the hotel. I think you'll be able to see why we both thought Athens was both lovely and sad.
Firstly, the tourist attractions:

For the second day of our trip, Hubby and I got up early and had breakfast at the hotel. It was a pretty standard European breakfast buffet (hard boiled eggs, bread and pastries, a tired Nespresso machine) with the addition of a Greek specialties corner (amazing yogurt, spoon sweets, tomato and feta salad, and filo pastries).
We spent most of the day doing a walking tour. Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06445777968831304584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8839637901110735651.post-9936579171321639882017-05-09T09:38:00.000+02:002017-05-09T12:21:50.974+02:00Athens- Day 1Hello!
Hubby and I were lucky enough to get to spend my school's spring break in Athens, Greece. We are trying to work our way through the big cities in Europe while we are overseas. :)
Athens is a very old, very beautiful city that's been incredibly hard hit by economic downturns in recent years. There's a lot of modern poverty and decay alongside ancient wonders, which made Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06445777968831304584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8839637901110735651.post-62408991680568731542017-02-19T19:19:00.001+01:002017-02-19T19:22:21.277+01:00Hey guys!
I'm back in the blogosphere! Back in August, I was so lucky to be able to accept a teaching position here in Germany. It's a fourth grade position, my first foray into elementary school, and I've been wrapped up into figuring out how I wanted that to look for me and my students.

I haven't done one of these in ages. One of the things about being overseas is that we put a LOT of stuff in storage back home, including photo albums. So I find myself struggling a bit because I'm lacking a lot of older pictures. So, instead of a baby picture or an adorable childhood story, here's a throwback to the time that we spent our anniversary in Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06445777968831304584noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8839637901110735651.post-90003839243875755542016-07-04T11:08:00.000+02:002016-07-04T11:11:51.654+02:00Happy Fourth of July!Hey guys!
Happy Fourth of July to all of my fellow American readers. For those of you from else where, Americans celebrate on the Fourth of July to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress (America's very first government) in 1776. Among other things, the document stated that the 13 colonies considered themselves a new, independent Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06445777968831304584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8839637901110735651.post-17552384622787128052016-07-01T16:02:00.000+02:002016-07-02T10:01:46.073+02:00Prague Trip Day 3: Prague Castle Tour!Hello guys,
For our third day in Prague, we set out to explore the castle complex perched high on a hill overlooking the rest of the city. Hubby and I had gotten a good look from the Charles Bridge on our first day, but we were excited to see it up close.
It was a dark and rainy day. Literally. So one of the things that I was very eager to learn more about in Prague was its history within the Communist Block. Having grown up in the States at the tail end of the Cold War, I have some memories of the big events surrounding the fall of the Soviet Union but not a whole lot. I was in kindergarten when the Berlin wall came down, for example. So one of the reasons why I was most excited to plan a trip to Prague was its incredibly rich Jewish history. I taught at a Jewish day school for several years and learned so much about the culture from my amazing students and coworkers.

My apologies for the prolonged radio silence. I really need to start getting back into the habit of posting regularly so that I don't have to start every entry with an apology. This spring has been crazy-busy, and with all of the changes that have happened for us in the last year I really felt the need for some privacy to sort out some personal stuff.

Long time, no blog. I've been SUPER busy the last few weeks and haven't had the time to sit down and do a proper blog post between the post-holiday blues, taking care of Big Boy after he strained his knee slipping on the tile, trying to stay on track with diet and exercise, and working like crazy as a sub. I've be so, so busy the last few weeks. Subbing has finally picked up and I'm basically working full time. Today I'm working a half day and don't have to be in until later, so I thought I'd give you an update on how my babies have been doing.

Yesterday we took the train to Nuremberg for the opening day of the Christmas Market. It's been held in the main square every winter for hundreds of years. So like everyone else, we woke up to the tragic events in Paris on Saturday. It hits pretty close to home for me, not only geographically with us living in Germany, but also because we were lucky enough to visit the city just this summer.

I've actually been super busy the last two weeks with work, so I feel like I don't have a lot of outfit pics to share. This past weekend, Hubby and I stuck close to home. We'd both had a very busy week, him in particular with two different coworkers who had personal crises happen, so we mostly puttered around the house and relaxed instead of taking a weekend trip. We also took a trip in to the Post to run a few errands and just get out of the house and stretch our legs. I'm still working on eating healthy while it's cold out! This winter is going to be a real learning experience for me, but I'm trying to start things off right. Here's what I ate today:

This past weekend, Hubby and I took a road trip to Stuttgart to visit the Porsche museum with a pair of friends. I'm not a huge car person, but I married one who was super excited to check out the museum!

Welcome back for this week's Fashion Friday. I'm still working on remembering to capture my daily outfits, especially since I'm now working more and have a tendency to be a bit rushed in the mornings. It's definitely chilly here now! You can see how my outfit choices are changing even compared to just a few weeks ago.

So I'm still working on this healthy cold weather eating. It's so, so tempting to eat a lot of fattening stuff when it's cold out, like pasta and creamy soups! Since neither of us is used to cold weather, having come to Germany from ARIZONA, this first winter is going to be especially tricky for us. We are trying, though!
Here's what I bough for the week:
